Dear Michael,

New Device used to Capture Rolling Codes...

There have been numerous reports around the country of vehicles being entered or stolen with high-tech devices; leaving no signs of entry or bypass. Investigators need to be aware of these types of tools to determine the truth about a reported stolen.

Code Grabber

We have added this new information on our site at http://vintrack.com/SIU.html Other bypass tools are also shown Click Here for more information.

San Diego Symposium Demonstrates High-Tech Auto Theft with affordable Relay Attack.

On February 7th, Swiss computer science professors will discuss wireless relay attacks on vehicles equipped with smart key systems. They will show how to enter and start 10 car models from 8 manufacturers without the owners knowledge. Their tests mimic the previously reported ability to send a signal to a car, allowing a suspect to enter, start, and drive the car away. A video explaining this process can be viewed at: http://vintrack.com/SIU.html or by clicking here

They have also published a paper detailing the information that can be downloaded from the above link. Their tests allow suspects to be 25' away from the victims key and send the signal more that 150' to the car allowing it to start.

Jammer or Grabber, you decide

KTVU 2 News in the Bay Area previously released surveillance video of Toyota Highlanders being entered without forced entry. You be the judge if a code jammer or grabber was used. Grabber clues would be if the interior lights of the vehicle are activated prior to entry. Click here to watch the video.

My first investigative step would be to determine if there were a common denominator in the victims vehicles (other than they are all Highlanders). Such as, were they all serviced at the same facility or were they all valet parked at the same location. Generally to program a working fob vehicles you need access to the victims key and/or vehicle.
